Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) for Domestic Wastewater

A Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) treats domestic wastewater, meaning wastewater from toilets, kitchens, bathrooms and daily activities in a building. HG Chem in Medan designs and builds STPs for commercial buildings such as hotels, hospitals, shopping centres, restaurants, apartments and condominiums.

Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) for Domestic Wastewater

Commercial buildings produce large volumes of domestic wastewater every day. This wastewater is rich in organic matter, so it is usually treated biologically with microorganisms before discharge to receiving waters, to meet the applicable standards.

In outline, the STP flow starts with a collection tank, then an equalisation tank to even out flow and load. An aeration tank then supplies oxygen so bacteria can break down organic matter, followed by a sedimentation tank to settle sludge. The water is filtered, held in a final tank, and disinfected in a chlorination tank before flowing to the receiving water body.

The capacity and size of each tank are matched to the number of occupants or visitors, the wastewater flow and the available space. We also supply aerators, decomposing bacteria, chlorination chemicals and dosing pumps for STP operation.

Workflow

  1. 1Domestic wastewater flows into a collection tank
  2. 2Equalisation tank: evens out flow and load
  3. 3Aeration tank: aerobic bacteria break down organic matter with oxygen supply
  4. 4Sedimentation tank: sludge settles out
  5. 5Filtration: remaining solids are removed
  6. 6Final tank: treated water is held
  7. 7Chlorination tank: disinfection before discharge
  8. 8Discharge to the receiving water body

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between an STP and a WWTP (IPAL)?

WWTP (IPAL in Indonesian) is the general term for a wastewater treatment plant. An STP (Sewage Treatment Plant) is a WWTP specifically for domestic wastewater from toilets, kitchens and bathrooms.

What is the STP process flow?

Wastewater, collection tank, equalisation tank, aeration tank, sedimentation tank, filtration, final tank, chlorination tank, then discharge to the receiving water body.

Can HG Chem help with an existing STP that is underperforming?

We can discuss it. Send us your STP conditions and the problems you face via WhatsApp; we also supply aerators, bacteria, chemicals and dosing pumps for operating STPs.
